JAMB CANDIDATE STORMS EXAM CENTRE WITH GUN

A 21-year-old candidate of the on-going Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nasarawa state has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in one of the centres for being in possession of firearms.

Confirming the arrest, Mr Bashir Lawal-Kano, the state commandant of the NSCDC told journalists in Lafia on Thursday, May 18 that the suspect was arrested at the Nasarawa state Polytechnic centre during a search at the entrance to the hall, The Nation reports.

The NSCDC boss said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday, May 16, after he was found to be in possession of a locally-made pistol and two rounds of live ammunition. Lawal-Kano said upon interrogation, the suspect confessed that someone gave him the gun for safe keeping. He said the suspect would be charged to court for illegal possession of firearms, adding that even registered guns were not allowed at examination centres. 

Meanwhile, On Wednesday, May 17, it was reported that the Joint Matriculation Board (JAMB), deducted 100 marks from a candidate’s result after the CCTV camera caught him cheating in the examination hall.
