CAMPUS GISTS: FINAL YEAR STUDENT KILLED BY SUSPECTED CULTISTS OVER GIRLFRIEND

A final year student of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State, (TASUED), has been murdered by suspected cult members when a crisis broke out over a girlfriend.

Tribune reports that the student, Ganiyu Oloyede, was hacked to death when the cultists, armed with dangerous weapons like guns and cutlasses, invaded an area which is off the campus, known as Abapawa, and caused mayhem.
                                    The murdered Ganiyu Oloyede
Oloyede, a student of the Social Studies Department, was said to be the target of the hoodlums who were after him because one of their members had beaten up his girlfriend and he had the guts to the the assault.
The cultist who was challenged by Oloyede, later mobilized his men and they went after him.
A female student who witnessed the incident, however, said Oloyede, aka Agunrege, was killed as a result of the cult clash between Aye and Aloera confraternities.
“The crisis started at about 12pm in Abapawa in Ijagun. The area has several students’ hostels. I saw the boys running around with cutlasses. They were later said to be Aye and Aloera cult members.
They chased Ganiyu to a corner and cut him with cutlasses until he died. What started the fight was that Ganiyu had a girlfriend who was beaten up a few days ago by one of the cult members. The cult member was said to be interested in the lady.
Ganiyu had protested the beating of his girlfriend by the cult member and the culprit went to invite his friends, who attacked Ganiyu.
Students are still in fear because the cult members are threatening to unleash more mayhem.”
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, has confirmed the killing, saying the incident was a fallout of a cult clash between two rival gangs who were fighting over a woman, also said to be a student of the institution.
